Gerrit De Mots services held at Sioux Center
SIOUX CENTER — Funeral services for Gerrit De Mots, 71, longtime Sioux Center school district secretary and civic leader, were held Saturday, June 29, in the Central Reformed church. Mr. De Mots died last Wednesday after a long illness. Rev. M. Klaaren officiated and burial was in the community cemetery.

Mr. De Mots served as secretary of the Sioux Center Independent school district for 47 consecutive years until his death, and also had been a member of the Sioux county school board.

He was the first manager of the Sioux Center Mutual Telephone Co. about 50 years ago and had been a partner in the De Ruyter Hardware Co. here until his retirement four years ago. He had been in the lumber business 35 years.

Born in New Holland, S. Dak., May 4, 1886, he came to Sioux Center at the age of three years and have lived there since. He had taught Sunday school and was a member of the church consistory at the Central Reformed church and was a charter trustee of the Sioux Center hospital board.

Survivors include the widow, Elizabeth; two daughters, Mrs. Janeva Boeyink of Sioux Center and Mrs. Arlene Winterson of Pittsburgh, Pa.; a son, R. Glenn of Hollywood, Calif., three sisters, two brothers and eight grandchildren.
