    Dr. Lee M. DeMott was accidentally drowned while fishing with his friend Turner Rumble in a pond on the Wendell Craig farm east of Petersberg, April 12. Dr. DeMott was born September 6. 1881 the son of Dr. William Milton and Anna Niehaus DeMott. He was a member of a family with a tradition that extended back to the earliest settlers on the community. The family had a rich heritage. They were French Huguenots and descended from the the French Nobility. The Ancestral Castle still stands and is still occupied. The Manoir De La Motte was built in the 14th century. His father was a great humanitarian and a sincere and dedicated physician having graduated first in his class in the College for medicine of Cincinnati University and practiced for over 55 years at Jasper, Haysville, High Banks and Otwell, where Lee grew to manhood. He attended the grade school at High Banks and finished at Otwell. Mr. DeMott helped on the farms that the family owned and always had a great affection for animals, and he got advice and help in treating them early in life.
