Maurice Lee Sherren was born April 17, 1904 on a farm north of Winthrop, Iowa and attended the local schools through the eighth grade and then farmed with his father, later becoming a farmer himself. During his younger years he was a chore farmer. The farm, according to his son, "was the most beautiful of any farm in the whole Midwest of the day. Cement compounds, feeding lots and silos (were) too expensive for the years to follow, when the farm changed from chores to crops alone." Maurice enjoyed being a farmer because he liked the fact that he never had to work for wages. He was a member of the Church of Christ United in Winthrop, and the Farm Bureau. Maurice mourned the passing of the chore farmers of which he was the finest of his day. Maurice was united in marriage to Corrine E. Miller and to this union were born two children: William and Mary Jean. Maurice died on Tuesday, 2 April 1996 at his farm home north of Winthrop. He was 91 years of age. Maurice is buried in the Wilson Cemetery which is just east of Independence. The information was compiled from Maurice's Obituary and family members.
