Notes about William "Billy" Samuel (William "Billy" Samuel) Sherren

William, known as "Billy," grew up on the family farm. In 1954 he joined the United States Navy and served with it until 1957. He then attended college on the G.I. Bill at the University of Florida in Gainesville, from 1958 to 1962. William received a Bachelors Degree in Education in December of 1962. Later he taught in the State of Nevada at Battle Mountain from 1963 to 1965. He then moved to Aurora, Illinois and taught there until 1987. He stayed in the hospital in Pittsburgh for a short time, undergoing brain surgery under the famed Dr. Peter Janetta in August of 1988. Since 1989, he has been the manager of the Tick Tock Gift Shop at the Fox Valley Mall, which he very much enjoys. William is now retired from the Tick Tock Gift shop and now enjoys his garden full of beautiful flowers. He must have received his green thumb from all the farmers in his family tree. William even became a little celebrity by getting his name in the newspaper in 1941. It reads: "The primary room helped Billy Sherren celebrate his sixth birthday at school last Thursday. He brought two angel food cakes, decorated with roses and candles, which were shared with the pupils and Miss Thurn." In 1997, William and Anne enjoyed their thirty-first wedding anniversary in Naperville, Illinois.
