Jane Lincoln was born in Abbotsley, in the county of Huntingtonshire, England. When she was young she was confirmed and became identified with the Episcopal church of England. When Jane came to the United States, she married Joseph Miller Sherren in Iowa, U.S.A. After 45 years of a beautiful marriage, Joseph died in September, 1866. Jane was of a very quiet disposition and with a strong home instinct. It might be said that she was a woman of the home. Two years after Joseph's death, she became lonely with the loss of her husband and later she fell in love again and was married to a David Slater. They settled on a farm near Winthrop and had two children, Jennie (later married and became Mrs. Jennie Knowles) and Katherine (later married and became Mrs. Katherine Meffert) . After three years, Jane's second husband, David died and she remained a widow living with her daughter from her first marriage, Mrs. Sarah Sampson, until the age of 81 years, 11 months and 29 days when she finally died on Wednesday January 5, 1916. She is buried with her first husband, Joseph Sherren in the Fleming-Fremont Cemetery in Iowa. Jane had a rich and rewarding life with both of her husbands.
