Notes about Walter Lincoln "Walt" (Walter Lincoln "Walt") Sherren

Walter followed his father's footsteps and was a successful farmer by trade. He had 120 acres which shared a mutual boundary with his brother, William. The original house was built in 1860 and is one of the oldest in the area, and so few know the history of it. Walter married Frances Lumbard "Fannie", in 1880. Fifty years later, the local newspaper stated: "Mr. and Mrs. Walter Sherren celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary at their home Monday, December 22, 1930. Other plans had been arranged for the day, but both having bad colds, it was deemed best to dispense with a large gathering. All the children spent the day in the home -- Mrs. Nellie Richardson of Aurora; Roy of West Union; Russell of Waterloo; and Joe of Winthrop. After their marriage on 22 December 1880, Walter and Frances went to housekeeping on a farm in Aurora, later moving to a farm of their own, one mile north of Winthrop. They enjoyed the farm life for over thirty years, finally after many years of hard work, they retired and moved into the town of Winthrop in 1919. Mr. and Mrs. Sherren are numbered among the best citizens of the town, members of the Methodist Church and active workers in church affairs." During their married life, they have been blessed with having 5 children. Walter and Frances are buried in the Fleming-Fremont Cemetery. The information was taken from the Cemetery records.
