Arnold Duane Molendorp was born on August 29, 1922, at home near Allendorf, Iowa. He was the son and only child of John and Grace (Dirks) Molendorp. He lived his youth in Osceola County where he attended a country school and attended school in Sibley, Iowa. Arnold served in the United States Army during World War II from 1942 to 1945. He attained the rank of master sergeant and was honorably discharged.
He was united in marriage to Dona Johnson of Sibley on September 18, 1946 in Allendorf. They lived in rural Ocheyedan, Iowa until moving to Ocheyedan. In 1979, they moved to Sibley. Arnold farmed and was employed by several contractors in Worthington, Minnesota and Harris, Iowa. He was also a self-employed contractor.
Arnold was a member of the Evangelical United Brethren in Allendorf. He was an active member of the United Methodist Church in Ocheyedan and Sibley where he served on many church boards and as a Sunday school teacher.
Arnold and Dona enjoyed square dancing and bowling on mixed bowling teams for many years. Dona passed away on November 2, 1995.
Arnold enjoyed fishing, hunting and watching sports. The Vikings and Twins were his favorite.
He moved to Heartwood Heights in Sibley and was the handy man and enjoyed transporting people when they needed help.
Arnold was an example to others and will be remembered for his humility, faith in the Lord, perseverance, kindness, sharing with those in need, and his love for friends and family.
He passed away on Tuesday, September 27, 2016 in Sibley.
Those left to cherish his memories are his three daughters and sons-in-law: Barbara and Ken Reiste of Clear Lake, SD, Karen and Clyde Newton of Sioux City, IA, Betty and Mark Consoer of North Mankato, MN; 9 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife Dona, his parents and great-grandson.
