Ellen Francis (Tirrel) Meyer of Long Prairie died December 7, 2017 at CentreCare Hospital in Long Prairie. Funeral services for Ellen will be held on Saturday, December 16, 2017, 11:00 a.m., at the Peace United Church in Long Prairie. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be held at Woodman Cemetery, Clarissa. She was born January 17, 1929 in George, Iowa to Frank and Ella Tirrel. She married Ernest Alfred Meyer on January 27, 1949 in George, Iowa. He preceded her in death on November 4, 2008. Alfred and Ellen lived in Luverne, Browerville, Northfield, Blooming Prairie, and Springfield, MN before moving to Clarissa, MN in 1969 where they farmed together for many years. When they retired from the farm they moved to Eagle Bend where Ellen continued to live after Alfred's death until 2015 when she moved to Long Prairie. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Clarissa and Peace United Church in Long Prairie. Ellen was an avid gardener with large flower and vegetable gardens and was a member of the Hope and Hoe Gardening Club in Clarissa. Ellen was also an accomplished seamstress and baker. She and Alfred were members of the Sunday Night Bowling League in Long Prairie for many years. Ellen was always very active in helping her children and grandchildren with all their 4-H projects. Ellen is survived by four sons, Randy (Vicki) of Long Prairie, Rick of Clarissa, Ronnie (Sue) of Sauk Centre, and Roger of Denver, CO; sister Thelma Sohl of George, Iowa; 15 grandchildren and 38 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and brother John Tirrell.
