CHANUTE TRIBUNE (KS) DECEMBER 23, 2003

IOLA: Loretta A. Carr, 88, Iola and formerly of Chanute, died Sunday, December 21, 2003, at the Allen County Hospital in Iola.
She was born February 16, 1915, in Coffeyville, the daughter of Fred Herman and Josephine Catherine Thele Gerdes.
She grew up in Coffeyville. She lived in California for four years after World War II before returning to Coffeyville. She operated Carr Oil Co. stations in Coffeyville, Independence and Cherryvale. She later lived in Tulsa and rural Chanute before moving to Iola in 2000.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Chanute as a deacon and elder and was in the women's group and the quilting group at the church.
She enjoyed ceramics, quilting, embroidery work and gardening.
On October 2, 1930, she married Clarence E. Carr in Paola. He died December 30, 2000.
Survivors include two daughters, Dorothy Howard, Iola, and Barbara Richardson, Mansfield, TX; 10 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Jim Carr; four brothers, Bill, Lewis, Johnnie and Bob Gerdes; four sisters, Mary Gerdes, Lillian Ables, Florence Longrear and Marjorie Lowrance; and two infant siblings.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. today at the First Presbyterian Church in Chanute, led by the Rev. Shelly Holle.
Graveside services were held at 2:30 p.m. today at the Fairview Cemetery in Coffeyville.
Memorials to the First Presbyterian Church in Chanute may be left with the funeral home.
Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Chapel, Iola, is in charge of arrangements.
