Clarence E. Carr, 90, Chanute, died Saturday, December 30, 2000, at Windsor Place, Iola.
He was born October 1, 1910, in Coffeyville, the son of Edgar and Julie Mae Rook Carr. He was a graduate of Coffeyville High School and worked for the railroad. He then worked for Sinclair Oil Co. in Coffeyville.
He worked for a refinery in California during World War II, then returned to Coffeyville, where he started Carr Oil Co. He had stations in Coffeyville, Independence and Cherryvale. He also delivered petroleum products to several other gas stations.
He then sold his company and moved to Tulsa, OK, where he was manager of a large drug store. That store purchased Cardinal Drug in Chanute, and Mr. Carr came here to manage it. After his semi-retirement, he raised cattle south of Chanute.
He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, serving as a deacon from 1971-74 and an elder in 1990. He also served on the properties committee. He was a former member of the Presbyterian church in Coffeyville.
He married Loretta Anna Gerdes in Osawatomie on October 2, 1930, and she survives.
He also is survived by two daughters, Dorothy Howard of Iola and Barbara Richardson of Mansfield, TX; one sister, Juanita Mae Madden of Coffeyville; 10 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded by a son, Jim, and two brothers, Lawrence and Walter.
Services were at 11 a.m. today at the church, with the Rev. Jim Rausch officiating. Burial followed at Fairview Memorial Park, Coffeyville. Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Chapel, Iola, was in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be made to the church.
