I think we may have a Geerds/Gerdes connection. I and a few of my cousins have been researching our Gerdes family for some time. One of my cousins took an AncestryDNA Test and was a match with a man in Arlington Texas. This person seems to descend from Henry W. Gerdes (death in St. Libory Ne), through Gesenam Gerdes Petersen.
My cousins and I are descended from a man called John William Gerdes born 16 Dec 1851. His parents were Anna and William Gerdes. The 3 of them came to America in 1868. I believe our John William is the one listed on your world connect tree as Wilken Geerds. Also our John William and his parents were living in St Libory NE. in 1885. Prior to living in Nebraska, John William and his parents lived in Forreston, Ogle County, Illinois, not far from where Henry W. Gerdes and his wife Martha were living in St. Libory Illinois. Our branch of the family moved to Texas County Missouri and was living there in 1900. In 1910 they were living in Noble County, Oklahoma. John William Gerdes died in 1921 in Coffeyville, Montgomery County, Kansas. He is buried at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Coffeyville. I believe his parents William(Wilke) and Anna died in Noble County, Oklahoma but have been unable to locate a grave or death record.

Thank you very much for the family group sheet. I was so excited about finally finding a connection to Henry W. Gerdes that I think I made a typo mistake. I meant that my John William Gerdes(who is buried at Calvary Catholic Cemetery) is the second child of Wilke and Antje Geerds. The one named Nanne? Wilken Geerds born 16 Dec 1851.

John William Gerdes married Rosina Fischer in Hampton, Franklin Co., Iowa in 1876. They had 3 sons..
1. William Gerdes born Sept. 1876. I am not sure of his death date. He was married twice and had many children. His first wife died in 1918 in the Spanish flu epidemic. Also lost two children in 1912 during tornado in Noble County Oklahoma.
2. Fred Herman Gerdes born 26 April 1878 died 17 Jan 1945 in Coffeyville, Kansas. Buried at Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Married Catherine Josephine Thele in 1906. My grandfather was their oldest child. They had 11 children survive to adulthood.
3. John Henry Gerdes born Feb 1880. I know almost nothing about him.
All 3 boys were born in Iowa. Rosina Fischer Gerdes died in Feb 1880 according to the 1880 census Mortality schedule, of burns. A family story says the two older boys were playing and knocked over an oil lamp. So it would seem that this story is true since she died of burns.
