"Miss Thelma Stohr Becomes Bride of Russell Meyering In Titonka Ceremony

Nuptial vows were spoken on Friday, October 9, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Titorika by Thelma Stohr and Russell Meyering both of Woden, towa. Their parents are Mr. and Mrs. Edward Stohr and Mr. and Mrs. Heiko Meyering of Woden.Rev. Don Salberg of Titonka performed the 8:00 p.m. candlelight ceremony at the altar which was graced with white pompons and mums and two large potted mums on pedestals. The pews were marked with candles and white bows.

The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a floor length, bell-shaped gown of brocaded satin, featuring a rounding neckline accented with wide lace, full length sleeves, and a detachable train which fell gracefully at the back froma large bow at the shoulders, with inserted wide lace and bows. Her flowers consisted of blue tinted roses and Stephanotis.

Linda Haugland of Forest City, friend of the bride, was the maid of honor and bridesmaids were Mrs. Ronald Christensen and Mrs. Gary Sleper, both of Woden, and sisters of the bride and groom respectively. Their gowns were of Arabianpeacock blue, floor length and bell-shaped, accented with a large bow and long streamers falling from the shoulders. Each carried two single white roses.

Mrs. Jim Murra was the bride's personal attendant. Valarie Stohr of Swea City, cousin of the bride, was the flower girl. Her dress was identical to the bride's. Paul Boomgarden of Woden, friend of the groom, was the ring bearer. Mrs.George Uken of Titonka pinned the flowers on the wedding party.

Lyle Doege of Woden, friend of the groom, was the best man and groomsmen were Randy Buns and Leroy Meyering, both of Woden, and friend and brother of the groom, respectively. The ushers were James Meyering, brother of the groom andGeorge Uken, brother-in-law of the bride, both of Titonka. Candlelighters and ushers also were Gene Haayer, of Buffalo Center, friend of the groom, and Henry Meyering of Woden, brother of the groom.

Miss Joyce Halverson of Woden was the soloist for the occasion and sang "O Perfect Love" and "Wedding Prayer."

Two hundred guests attended the reception given in the church basement after the ceremony. Mrs. Henry Stohr of Woden and Mrs. Franklin Schutter of Titonka were the dining room hostesses and Peggy Carlberg of Stratford registered theguests.

Marsha and Elaine Meyering, sisters of the groom, received the gifts and carried them to the table. Mrs. Iver Carlberg and Mrs. Ann Larson, both of Stratford, cut and served the cake. Mrs. Trena Skilbred of Buffalo Center and Mrs. LenaHarringa of Britt had charge of the coffee service. Waitresses were Linda"

The bride is a graduate of the Woden-Crystal Lake Community School and also attended Mankato Commercial College at Mankato, Minnesota.

Russell E. Meyering, 80, of Woden, passed away Wednesday, October 9, 2024, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. A memorial service was held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, October 14, 2024, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Woden [with Rev. John Heille officiating.] Inurnment was at Bingham Township Cemetery.

Russell Everett Meyering, the son of Heiko and Grace (Wessels) Meyering, was born November 4, 1943, on a farm north of Woden. He graduated from Buffalo Center High School in 1961 at the age of 17. On October 9, 1964, he married Thelma Stohr at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Titonka. Russell farmed for 43 years, retiring in 2008. He also did a little hail adjusting for Farmers Mutual Hail Insurance Company. He loved to golf, play cards, dance, sing and"

Russell is survived by his wife of 60 years, Thelma of Woden; two daughters, Sheila (Jeff) Hawthorne of Inver Grove Heights, MN, and Angela (Jim) Korsa of Lakeville, MN; grandchildren, Allison and Ali Villa, Tyler Korsa and his special friend, Payton Braun, Trevor Korsa, Nicole Hawthorne and fiance, Andy Mavencamp and Elaina Hawthorne; siblings, James (Karen) Meyering of Woden, Jeriene Sleper of Ruthven, Leroy (Ruth) Meyering of Eden Prairie, MN, Henry (Janet) Meyering of Garner, Marsha (Dan) Saybolt of Miami, FL, and Elaine (Dale)"
