Note: Fredwin (Hans) Ackerman was born January 24, 1921 on a farm near Ashton, Iowa at the home of his parents Edward and Kate (DeVries) Ackerman.

He married Harriet Krull on December 19, 1945 in the home of Hillary Krull. They farmed for many years northeast of George and moved to town upon retirement in 1983. Hans was an active member of First Baptist Church and spent yearsworking with Awana. He devoted many years to the George School Board. He enjoyed bowling, golfing, and watching the Twins play baseball. Farming was his passion and it was just in the last year that he fully retired although he couldstill be seen driving the baler.

Hans died Tuesday, June 29, 2010 at the Osceola Community Hospital in Sibley, Iowa at the age of 89 years, five months, and five days.

He leaves to cherish his memory three daughters: Jolene Ackerman of Greenville, South Carolina; Carrie Ackerman-Rice of Lake Andes, South Dakota; Glenda (Doug) Lenz of George, Iowa; a son Winfred (Deb) Ackerman of George, Iowa; and adaughter-in-law, Christina Ackerman of Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Also left to cherish his memory are nine grandchildren: Tammie (Tom) Drown; Tanya Lenz; Chad (Sara) Lenz; Fredrick (Jessica), Benjamin, Jennifer and Christopher Ackerman; Mandy (Corey) Storm and Greta Ackerman; a step granddaughter, PeggyWard; nine great-grandchildren: Talon, Tiffany and Damon Drown; Sage Lenz; Daphne Ackerman; Jaeda, Julia, Hannah and Kaden Storm; three step great-grandchildren: Heather (Aaron) Burton, Tiffany Cherry and Bradley Ward; a brother, Jay(Anna May) Ackerman; a sister, Mable (Ervin) Drenth; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, his son, Eddy; and a son-in-law Harry Rice.

Service Friday, July 2, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. First Baptist Church rural George, Iowa Family worship will precede.

"Ackerman, Fredwin "Hans" - Harriet Krull

Fredwin (Hams) Ackerman is the son of Ed and Kate DeVries Ackerman and grew to manhood in the George area. He took over the farm operation after his father died. He married Harriet Krull, the daughter of Hillary and Minnie Kix Krull.She attended Iowa State Teachers College and taught for a number of years. Both of the Ackermans were long time supporters and workers at the Lyon County Fair as well as the 4-H. They attended the Baptist Church."

They had the following children: Jolene; Carrie who married Harry Rice (deceased); Glenda married Gary Campbell and later Doug Lenz; Eddy married Christine Blair and he is deceased; Winfred (Fred) who married Lisa Johnson and laterDeborah Cuttell.
