'Remembering the life of ... Abel Dirks, 84, of Fergus Falls and formerly of Pine River, who died Saturday, December 21, 1991 at the Broen Home in Fergus Falls.

He was born August 30, 1907 near Oakes, North Dakota the son of Abel and Anna (Kuper) Dirks.

On August 30, 1932 he married Luella Tempel. The couple raised four children.

Preceding Abel in death were his parents, a great-granddaughter Laura Elizabeth, two sisters, and five brothers.

Survivors include his wife, Luella; three daughters, LaRie Hull and her husband Harm of Fergus Falls, MN, Linda Loob of Phoenix, AZ, and Diana Raymond and her husband Michael also of Phoenix, AZ; a son, Dalton Dirks and his wife Maryannof Rice, MN; eleven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three sisters, Lena Funk of Worthington, MN, Eldena Hifill of Oceanside, CA, Katie Wollenburg and her husband Raymond of Reading, MN; tow brothers, John of Wadena, MN, and Georgeof Avoca, MN. Blessed be the memory of Abel Dirks.'

Mrs. Hull writes, "OSTFRIESLAND, GERMANY DESCENT. NEVER IN MILITARY SERVICE. STARTED SCHOOL IN LENNOX,SD. WORKED IN BUMPER FACTORY, FARM LABORER, HARVEST FIELDS IN KANSAS, PLUMBERS HELPER. LIKED FISHING,WOODWORK, CERTAIN CARD GAMES,LIKED TO VISIT WHEN YOUNGER. BECAME HARD OF HEARING AND BECAME MORE QUIET AFTER THAT. HAD A STROKE ON JULY 5,1990 AFTERWHICH HE GRADUALLY WENT DOWNHILL IN HEALTH. ENJOYED HIS CHILDREN, GRANDCHILDREN AND GREAT GRANDCHILDREN VERY MUCH. ESP.WHEN THE CHILDREN WERE 1-3 YRS OLD."
