    Correspondentie 1773-1774: De hoofdpersonen zijn hier de weduwe Elisabeth Westpalm, geboren Van Ommeren, verder de heren Gosse Bennema en zijn zwager Frans Izaäk Guichart. Bennema, telg uit een vooraanstaand Ommelander eigenerfdengeslacht, was militair en commandeur van de vesting Delfzijl. De Zuid-Limburgse domineeszoon Guichart was jurist en destijds hoofdman (rechter) in de Hoge Justitiekamer van Stad en Lande. Statius Christoffel Westpalm, afkomstig van Husum in Sleeswijk-Holstein, was een gefortuneerde wijnkoper te Amsterdam met koloniale interesses en connecties in hoge VOC-kringen. Hij overleed in Groningen en werd daar begraven in de Lutherse kerk. De weduwe Westpalm woonde later in die stad en huurde als buitenverblijf het Huis te Paterswolde, ook als Nijborg bekend.

    Commandeur Bennema kampte lange tijd met financiële problemen; hij had een groot gezin, was vaak ziek en werd slecht betaald. Zo stond hij onder andere in het krijt bij mevrouw Westpalm, die hem bestookte met aanmaningen om zijn schulden met rente aan haar terug te betalen.

    Gosse Bennema was luitenant colonel te Delfzijl. Bij zijn huwelijk kwam hij uit Noordhorn.

    Bij het huwelijk van Gosse Bennema en Dina Geertruida Hulzebosch was Jan Keun als getuige aanwezig. Hij was de grootvader van de bruid.
