Notes about Jan Sluijs

Landbouwer, commissionair, handelsman. Hij handelde in tulpen en was een succesvol zakenman. Hij was ook onderwijzer in de zondagschool; onderwees graag anderen. Het verhaal gaat dat hij kinderen in huis nam en ze aan het werk zette met de opdracht zonder verdere instructie een veldbed met opkomende bloemen onkruidvrij te maken. Na het verwijderen van enkele bloemen greep hij in en legde uit wat bloemen en onkruid was. Vervolgens bracht hij het gebeurde over in de geestelijke context uit de Bijbel waar onkruid geschiden werd van koren. Was een vriendelijke, nederige man die veel van kinderen hield. Hij was trompettist in Sursum Corda de Andijkse muziekvereniging en mede-oprichter / bestuurslid van de vereniging "Woordkunst". Daar onderzochten ze de betekenis van woorden zoals "Halleluja" en "Sursum Corda".
