Notes about Cornelis Sluijs

Dove Kees. Hij was tuinman en vanaf zijn 18e doof. Zijn vrouw was ook doof en hun kinderen hadden ook gehoorproblemen. Kees trakteerde graag zijn neefjes. Omdat zijn moeder nogal zuinig was, sloop hij stiekem naar de zolder en vulde zijn broekzakken met appels die hij meenam voor zijn neefjes. In de kerk schreven zijn neven de preek op papier. Zo kon hij "meeluisteren". Hij speelde accordeon ook al was hij doof.

Op de foto (v.l.n.r.) in ca. 1908 de broers Jan, Kees en Jacob Sluijs.
