Notes about James Murray Lord

[oneline.ged]
[Brent Ruesch.ged]

Jamees Murray was a Covenanter with the 9  Earl of Argyle, Archibald Campbell.
The Earl was executed in Jun 1685 after his invasion of Scotland.
James Murray became a prisoner at the Canongate Covenanter's Prison in Edinburgh.  He was banished to America on 30 July 1685.  He was transported from Leith, Scotland to Eastern New Jersey on the ship Henry and Francis by George Scott of Pitlochie.  The master of the ship was Richard Hutton.  The ship left 4 Aug 1685.

It is interesting that James Murray appears to have defied his father and sided with his enemy.  But this was common in the religious wars of the day.  The source for this is Directory of Scots Banished to the American Plantations 1650- 1775
