      In 1920 is de toenmalige NSM aan de Conradstraat verhuisd
      naar Amsterdam-Noord aan de overkant van het IJ. Het terrein in de
      Oosterdok werd voor het bouwen van grotere schepen te klein en men
      is toen verhuisd. De NDSM is in 1946 ontstaan doordat de NSM ging
      samenwerken met de NDM (reparatie). In 1979 is de NDSM opgehouden
      te bestaan.

      Stichting NDSM-Herleeft heeft als doel om de geschiedenis
      van deze werf, die eens de grootste scheepswerf in Nederland was en hoog op
      de wereldranglijst stond, levendig te houden voor het publiek. Wij hebben
      dan ook alles wat er op de werf van dit bedrijf is gevonden in archieven
      ondergebracht en hebben op het oostelijk deel van de werf een kleine
      ontvangst- en informatiecentrum van waaruit wij rondleidingen en andere
      activiteiten verrichten.
