    Informatie over Soest van Wikipedia (https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soest): Soest ist die Kreisstadt des gleichnamigen Kreises im Regierungsbezirk Arnsberg in Nordrhein-Westfalen. In der jeweils etwa 50 km östlich von Dortmund und westlich von Paderborn gelegenen Stadt in der fruchtbaren Soester Börde leben heute etwa 47.000 Einwohner. Neben der Kernstadt mit mehr als 30.000 Einwohnern verteilt sich die übrige Bevölkerung auf die umliegenden Stadtteile.
    Erst gegen Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts verbesserte sich die wirtschaftliche Lage, als der Güterbahnhof mehr und mehr Arbeitsplätze schuf (in der Hochzeit ca. 2000 Beschäftigte) und sich eine mittelständische Industrie im Bereich von Lebensmittel- (Zuckerfabrik, Soest als Mittelpunkt der fruchtbaren Börde) und Eisenverarbeitung entwickelte. Gleichwohl war Soest zu Beginn des 20. Jahrhunderts noch eine beschauliche Provinzstadt, die kaum über die Stadtumwallung hinausgewachsen war und gerade wegen ihres romantischen Charakters zum Zentrum des Westfälischen Expressionismus wurde.
