'Kathy Johnson, Former Visiting Neighbor, Dies
Kathy Johnson, age 69, of rural Milbank, died on October 28, 2004, in the Milbank Area Hospital/Avera Health. Rev. Janine Rew-Werling and Rev. N. Craig Werling officiated at the services which were held Monday in the American LutheranChurch. Music was by LaVona Van de Voort, organist, and Deb Rausch, soloist.
Burial was in the Milbank City Cemetery. Pallbearers were Bradley Johnson, Greg Johnson, Laura Johnson, Andrew Russman, Heidi Wollman, Ken Johnson and Doug Barlund.
Born on May 28, 1935, in Twin Brooks, Kathy Johnson was the daughter of Herman and Jennie (Groen) Willms. She attended elementary school in Big Stone City and attended high school in Strandburg, South Shore and Wieser, ID. She graduatedfrom Milbank High School in 1953.
On August 30, 1953, she was united in marriage with Gordon R. Johnson in the American Lutheran Church. Following marriage, the couple lived and farmed south of Milbank. Mrs. Johnson was an LPN for five years and worked as a 'visiting neighbor' for many years.
She was a member of the American Lutheran Church and the Altar Guild.
Survivors include her husband, Gordon, rural Milbank; three daughters and sons-in-law: Janene and Mark Francis, Elkhart Lake, WI, Debbi and Bob Higginbotham, Huntsville, AL, and Sharon and Jon Wollman, Sioux Falls; two sons, Larry Johnson, Omaha, NE, and Robert Johnson, Milbank; 12 grandchildren: Bradley Johnson, Quenten Johnson and wife, Wendy, Bobby and Ricky Higginbotham, Greg and Laura Johnson, Heidi and Kirstie Wollman, Andrew and Matthew Russman, and Hollyand Maria Francis and many cousins.
Her grandson Quenten is currently serving in Iraq and was unable to attend the service.
Preceding her in death were her parents, two sisters and four brothers.
Emanuel-Patterson Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements."
