'A note on my brother Fred - he was 6 ft 6 in tall after working on road construction all day he & buddies went swimming in the river at White Lake S.D. and dove off hit his head on a rock broke his neck. became immediately paralyzedfrom waist down. He was flown to Sioux Falls where they inserted rods in neck to relieve pressure and also was in an iron lung. He had also worked in Milbank Stone Quarries and made the ball on top of monument for the American LeagueBaseball. He had been in the army also.' Katherine O.(Willms)Johnson - xxx Jan MCMXCII.
Mrs. Hull writes: "HAD WORKED IN MILBANK STONE QUARRY AND MADE THE BALL ON TOP OF MONUMENT FOR THE AMERICAN LEAGUE BASEBALL. WAS IN ARMY. 6FT 6IN TALL--WORKED ON ROAD CONSTRUCTION ALL DAY, WENT WITH BUDDIES FOR SWIM AT WHITELAKE,SD.--DOVE OFF HITTING HEAD ON A ROCK,BROKE HIS NECK. BECAME IMMEDIATELY PARALYZED FROM WAIST DOW. FLOWN TO SIOUX FALLS WHERE RODS WERE INSERTED IN NECK TO RELIEVE PRESSURE ALSO WAS IN IRON LUNG. BAPTIZED-LUTHERAN." <>
