Jennie Smidt, daughter of John Abels, Sr., and Johanna Meyering was born April 26, 1916 a Kamrar, Iowa. Her parents moved to Buffalo Center when she was 3 or 4 years old and she has lived here since.
She was united in marriage to John Smidt on January 15, 1937 at Buffalo Center, Iowa. To this union were born five children Jo Ann, Richard, Alvin, Mary and Sandra. ..." <>

John Abels, Sr. was born August 4, 1890 at Nieuweschans, Gronigen, Holland. He spent his boyhood there. He married Johanna Meyering at Bellingwolede, Holland and establisher their home; John, Jr. was born there. John, Sr's father (Opa)came to the U.S. first and two years later, in 1913, John, Sr. followed them to Kamrar, Iowa, but Johanna (Oma) would not go unless her brother, Jerry, would come too. (See Heiko Meyering article.) The Henry Dontje's who came to the U.S.with them, moved from Kamrar to Buffalo Center first and liked the area and told the Meyerings., so in 1918 they also moved to the George Johnson farm (where Hank Dohlman lives). Two years later, in 1920, John and Johanna and childrenJohn, Jr., Joe, Jennie, and Edward moved on another George Johnson farm (where Dave Abels lives now) and they farmed there. They retired in 1948 and John, Sr. passed away at age 62. Johanna was the daughter of John and EverdeanaMeyering and was born November 10, 1889. Her sisters were Yerena and Trena (Skilbred), and brothers were Ben, Jerry, Tony, Joah, Henry, and Heiko. ..."

Winter Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements and Interment was in Olena Mound cemetery. Pallbearers were David Abels, Donald Abels, Ronald Abels, Marvin Janssen, Ronald Smidt and Keith Hagenson.
Jennie Smidt, daughter of John Abels, Sr., and Johanna Meyering was born April 26, 1916 a Kamrar, Iowa. Her parents moved to Buffalo Center when she was 3 or 4 years old and she has lived here since.
She was united in marriage to John Smidt on January 15, 1937 at Buffalo Center, Iowa. To this union were born five children Jo Ann, Richard, Alvin, Mary and Sandra.
Mrs. Smidt passed away at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester Minnesota following a brief illness on August 20, 1971 at the age of 55 years, 3 months and 25 days.
Mrs. Smidt had been employed at the Timely Mission Nursing Home in Buffalo Center for the past four years. She was loved by the staff and the residents as well. She had a great love for the elderly and was a great inspiration to thestaff in the way she worked and conducted herself in their presence. She was a person who did not spare herself, she would do anything she could to make her family and grandchildren happy. She would never complain as she cared for herloved ones She will be missed very much by her husband, mother, children grandchildren, relatives, work as sociates and friends. She loved her Lord very much and expressed this many times as she spoke of the peace she had in Him andstated she was ready to meet Him whenever He should call for her.
She leaves to mourn her passing her husband, John; her mother Mrs. Johanna Abels, Sr.; five children, Mrs. Jerry (Jo Ann) Hejna of Ventura, Richard of Fertile; Alvin of Buffalo Center, Mrs. Ronnie (Mary) James of Buffalo Center, and Mrs.Mike (Sandra) Teig of Mankato, Minnesota; nine grandchildren, and three brothers, John, Jr. and Joe of Buffalo Center and Edward of Suring, Wisconsin. She was preceded In death by her father, John, and one granddaughter, Jenle." <>
