Heiko made the journey across the Atlantic Ocean to America from Bellingvolde, Holland when he was four years old in 1914, with his parents, John and Everdena (Raatjes) Meyering and his brothers, Tony, Ben, John and Henry, and sister,Trena. they joined Heiko's older brother, Jerry, and sister, Minnie, who settled in Kamrar, Iowa in 1913. the tickets they used to cross the ocean were compliments of a farmer who was impressed with the work that Jerry did tiling forhim.
The Meyering family rented 120 acres to start farming as well as tiled others' land. In 1918, they rented a total of 360 acres near Buffalo Center. The field work was done with horse-drawn machinery. they milded 12 to 13 cows by handand raised hogs, cattle, sheep, and chickens. In 1926, they moved to a 300-acre farm owned by J. J. Guyer and three other people, and rented another 160 acres. John passed away in 1938 and Everdena in 1940.

John and Minnie Abels and their son, John came to America in 1913. They had three more children: Joseph Edward, and Jenny. ... Trena married Albert Boltjes and had one child named Johnnie. Laker she married Carl Skilbred and had two children, Karen and Lawrence. Johnnie married Jeriena Jensen and they had five children: Henrietta, Johnnie, Ronnie, Theresa, andLaurie. They currently live in Elmore, Minnesota. Karen married Dean Pickerell and they have twin sons, Carl and Brian; they reside in Minnetonka, Minnesota. Lawrence married Patricia Coy of Elmore and they have three children: Brett,Scott, and Brooke; they live in Ft. Wayne, Indiana."

"Trena Skilbred, 76
Funeral services for Trena Skilbred, 76, of Buffalo Center were held Thursday, June 7 at 10:30 a.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Buffalo Center with Rev. Floyd Anderson officiating. Winter Funeral Service was in charge of arrangementsand interment was in Olena Mound Cemetery.
Casketbearers were Ronnie Meyering, Johnnie Meyering, Jr., Jim Meyering, Russell Meyering, LeRoy Meyering and Henry Meyering. Mrs. August Baumann was the organist and music was by Jonathan Pilgrim.
Trena Skilbred was born September 23, 1907 to Johannes and Eberdena (Raatjes) Meyering in Bellingwolde, Holland. She came with her parents to the United States in 1914 settling first on a farm near Kamrar and later moved to a farm northof Buffalo Center. On April 11, 1947 she was united in marriage to Carl Skilbred at the Reformed Parsonage. Trena remained in her home in Buffalo Center after the death of her husband Carl in 1957.
Trena faithfully attended the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, cleaned the church, worked with her quilting group, and worked many years in the cafeteria of the Buffalo Center School.
Trena passed from this life from cancer in the home of her daughter on June 4 at 8:30 a.m. having reached the age of 76 years, 8 months and 12 days.
She is survived by two sons, Johnnie of"
