Warren Harvey Flenniken, youngest of four sons of Rev. Warren Flenniken and the former Miss Jane Hearst Pressly, was born in the parsonage of Hopewell A.R.P. Church, where his father was minister. Both of his parents descended from Scotch-Irish Reform Presbyterians; whose families immigrated to the back country of the Carolina's in the mid-1760's.
At the age of four, Warren's father died, leaving his widowed mother with six children. Jane Flennikne continued to raise her children near Hopewell church and assured that Warren and his siblings had a good education.
In November 1864, at the age of 16, Warren enlisted as a Private in Capt. Giles J. Patterson's company, 3rd South Carolina State Troops; under the command of Col. Robert Gooding. His service was short, with the war ending in April 1865. Shortly after Warren returned home, his mother married Thomas Torbit, a widower with one child.
On November 10th 1869, Warren married Miss Sarah Caroline "Carrie" Bradley of Abbeville, S.C. Carrie sadly died four months later, leaving Warren a young widower, but no children. Warren at this time moved to Winnsboro and lived with his brother, David; who was in the mercantile business, grains & cotton.
In Winnsboro, Warren joined Bethel A.R.P. and met Katherine Patton. He and Katie, as she was known, were married and had the following known children:
Janie Patton {m. I. Best}(1882-1974)

Margaret Ansley (1885-1975)
Julia (1890-1904)
Warren Harvey, Jr. (1895-1920)
Warren and Katie lived in Winnsboro for the next fifty years; where Warren worked as a Cotton Broker and they where active in the A.R.P. church. In 1880, Warren's mother, recently widowed came to live with them until her death in 1903.
In 1939, Warren and Kate Flenniken were interview for a project through the WPA called "Folklore Stories" where they both recounted their childhoods, life during the civil war and the old South after the war. These interviews are now part of the achieves at the Library of Congress.
