Lewis Washington "Wash" Ringo was the 14th child of Cornelius "P" Ringo; he was born of Cornelius' 2nd wife, Elizabeth. Cornelius had another son which he named Lewis; he was his 4th child born of his 1st wife, Nancy Frazer. Be careful in researching this line or the two Lewis' may be confused.
Lewis Washington Ringo married Margaret Chaney Vest, 15 December 1842 in Edgar Co., IL. In marrying, he gave his name as Washington Ringo, and she gave hers as Chancy Vest.
In 1849, at the age of 26 years, Lewis Washington "Wash" Ringo, went to California with his half-brother, Lewis Ringo, age 44 years. Apparently, not finding gold, both returned to Edgar Co., IL, where they are found, with their families, living next to each other in the 1850 U.S. Census. They are both listed as miners. In Illinois, Lewis Washington Ringo is also listed as a saw and grist mill operator in partnership with his half-brother, Lewis Ringo. The date of the elder Lewis' death is not known.
We have searched, on Ancestry.com, for the two half-brothers, Lewis in the 1860, and the 1870 Censuses of the entire United States. We can not find either of them, and when searching by name for each member of their families, we have not found any of either family. I wonder if they went to California in 1849, or if it was later. They would probably have been missed when the two censuses were taken, although, Elizabeth Jane Ringo, did marry in Shelby Co., Illinois in 1869, James Stone Jordan. Some say that Dulcina Ringo, the daughter of Wash and Chaney, was born, 1862, in Arkansas. This has not been proven.
Below: Dulcena Ringo was the wife of Lewis Ringo, half-brother of Lewis "Wash" Ringo. She is shown in the household next door to Lewis the elder's, household; she was in the household of Lewis Washington "Wash" Ringo when the 1850 census was taken. She may have died 1850-1851; her husband Lewis Ringo married a 2nd wife in 1851. Was Dulcena visiting "Wash" and Chana, or did Dulcena and Lewis, the Elder, separate and then divorce?

Lewis' first deed in Shelby Co., IL was in 1869. We have been unable to find censuses for Lewis and family in 1860 or 1870 in either Shelby Co., or Moultrie Co., IL ; According to the 1900 Census of Shelby Co., Windsor Twp., Lewis' daughter, Sinai Cain (Dulcina-named after her Aunt), states that she was born in Arkansas and she gives her year of birth as 1851. The year of birth that Gerald Earl Ringo gave us for Dulcina is 1862; "Ringo Family History Series," has 1861. Dulcina married James Cain and had a daughter, Ava, and a son, "Wash".

"1D2B1B14 Lewis Washington Ringo, b. 12-6-1822 (corrected per Vol. #?, pg. 55, corrections to Vol. 3). The last of the fourteen children of Cornelius P. Ringo was the fourth son in the series of the eight children of Elizabeth. He was born in Montgomery Co., Ky. 12-6-1822 (corrected per pg. 55). "Wash" was nine years old when his father in Edgar Co., Ill. took as his third wife, Mary Combs ("Polly") Hanks, the widow of Abraham Hanks, Jr. ; Edgar Co., Ill. records show that on 12-15-1842 Lewis Washington Ringo married Margaret Chaney Vest who was born 3-1-1823 (corrected per pg. 55) in Marshall?, Indiana. (Pg. 55 Corrections to Volume 3 has,"In checking several Atlas' I did not find a town of Marshall Indiana listed. ; Add question mark after Marshall). In 1849, at age 27 years he was a miner in California with his half-brother, Lewis, 45 years. Apparently, not finding gold, both had returned to Edgar Co., Ill. by 1850. 'Wash' died in Shelby Co., Ill. 11-20-1881; his wife's death occurred two years later 12-1-1883 apparently in the same place. They had nine children listed as:
A. Lewis J. Ringo, b. 9-23-1843, Edgar Co., Ill., d. 1915 Mt. Zion, Ill.
B. William R. Ringo, b. 2-1-1846, Edgar Co., Ill., died 9-?-1860

"Dulcena was probably named for Dulcena Hanks Ringo, the wife of 'Wash's" half-brother, Lewis.
We have recently found another male Ringo, who died in Sullivan, Moultrie Co., IL, but we have not as yet identified him. We are hoping someone will be able to help us. Here is his information:
