Rotrud (* 775, † 6. Juni 810), benannt nach der Großmutter Karl des Großen, wurde in Rom im Alter von 6 Jahren mit dem damals etwa 10-jährigen Kaiser Konstantin VI. von Byzanz verlobt. Die Ehe kam jedoch aufgrund zunehmender Entfremdung der beiden Reiche nicht zustande.[23]

Ze werd naar de grootmoeder van Karel de Grote benoemd.

Rotrud (Hruodtrud) (* wohl 775; † 6. Juni 810) war die älteste Tochter Karls des Großen aus seiner Ehe mit Hildegard.

781 wurde sie auf Betreiben der byzantinischen Kaiserin Irene mit Konstantin VI. verlobt. Rotrud wurde vom Eunuchen Elissaios im Griechischen unterrichtet. Das Eheversprechen wurde jedoch 787 gelöst.

Aus ihrer Verbindung mit dem neustrischen Adligen Rorico (auch Rorich), später Graf von Maine, vorher Graf von Rennes, entstammte Ludwig (* um 800; † 867), der spätere Abt von Saint-Denis (Rorgoniden)
