Richard verteld over vader.

Meer dan 27 jaar heeft het geduurd voordat ik er onlangs aan toe kwam naar het kerkhof te gaan. Een saaie en ongezellige plaats vlakbij het Sportfondsenbad in Bussum. Het bleek dat het graf een aantal jaren geleden was weggehaald. Ja, dacht ik, zo gaat het ook met je herinneringen. In de herfst van de jaren zestig is hij overleden, na een ziekbed van enkele jaren waarin hij verschillende periodes van zijn lijden hoop had dat het ook beter zou worden. Hij was een man met veel vrienden en zijn verjaardagen waren voor mij altijd een groot feest. Tijdens zijn ziekte werd het bezoek van vrienden en familie steeds minder, op enkele uitzonderingen. Dat was voor mijn moeder zeer pijnlijk. Elk jaar op Dodenherdenking sta ik voor het beeld aan de Frederik van Edenweg in Bussum en zie op de achtergrond mijn vader staan. Na de oorlog was er veel behoefte aan dit soor vormen van vrijheidsdrang om dit in een beeld weer te geven. Aan vele van deze beelden mocht hij meewerken. Zijn scheppingsdrang heeft mij er toe aangezet om als hobby het beeldhouwen uit te oefenen.
De naam van de voetbalvereniging BFC brengt nog zo'n herinnering terug. Vele thuiiswedstrijden hebben we samen bezocht zonder ooit een betaalkaartje te kopen.
Nog zo'n plaats waar ik met weemoed aan terugdenk is de omgeving aan de rand van de spiegel waar de hei overgaat in zand, daar was vroeger de "Zandzee", een plaats waar hij mij zwemmen heeft geleerd.
Ik denk zelf dat ik veel van hem heb overgenomen, zijn creativiteit, zijn behoefte om te scheppen door mee te werken aan de de vele bouwwerken waar hij aan gewerkt heeft.
Onlangs was ik in de Nieuwe Kerk in Amsterdam en dan komen diverse vragen naar boven die ik hem had willen stellen, hoe lang hij aan de kerk heeft gewerkt, wat hij daar gedaan heeft enz.enz. Kom je boven de veertig jaar, krijgen wij allemaal met dit soort vragen te maken, daarom deze REUNIE.
