Alphons Marie Cornelis Asselbergs was directeur van Asselbergs' IJzerhandel N.V. Dit bedrijf bevond zich in de Lievevrouwestraat op nummer 41 te Bergen op Zoom in het huis genaamd 'London'. De rijk gebeeldhouwde gevel is in 1647 opgetrokken. Men spreekt hier van een barokke pilastergevel en is zeldzaam in de Nederlanden. Alphons is Officier in de Orde van Oranje Nassau. Het gezin Asselbergs-van Wees heeft in Bergen op Zoom eerst op de Grote Markt nummer 29 gewoond en is later verhuisd naar de Hoogstraat 15 In 1923 koopt Alphons het net ten noorden van Bergen op Zoom gelegen landgoed Ruytershove aan. Voortaan wordt er in de zomer op Ruytershove verbleven en in de winter op de Hoogstraat. In het begin van de Tweede Wereldoorlog wordt Ruytershove door Duitsers gevorderd. Na de oorlog heeft het gebouw dienst gedaan als internaat ter vervanging van een internaat in Moerdijk. In 1955 koopt de gemeente Bergen op Zoom het landgoed om het vervolgens te laten afbreken.
