Ter gelegenheid van de vijftigste verjaardag van Jan Wit schreven een aantal goede vrienden voor hem een "Witboek voor een vijftiger". Een van de medewerkers Ted Logeman, schreef er een aantal limmericks in:

Jan Wit (226-VIII) werd blind geboren, maar gezien zijn werk was dit geen probleem.

De theoloog en dichter dr. Jan Wit is op 66-jarige leeflijd in Groningen overleden.
Hij verwierf faam door zijn aandeel in de totstandkoming van het Liedboek voor de kerken.
Zo heeft hij veel psalmen op rijm gezet en veel gezangen geschreven, vertaald en herdicht.
Als hymnoloog was hij sinds 1971 verbonden aan de Rijksuniversiteit van Groningen.
Van 1948 tot 1967 was Wit predikant in Nijmegen.
In de jaren vijftig ontwikkelde hij grote activiteit op het gebied van het lekespel,
deed radiowerk en hield lezingen.
In 1969 werd hem het eredoctoraat in de theologie verleend door de Rijksuniversiteit van Groningen.
