Hij werkte als mijnwerker te Helchteren en kwam toen terecht bij de Firma Aubry(vervaardigen scheikundige toestellen) als meestergast.Uiteindelijk werd hij machinesteller bij de firma Mertens te Mortsel, waar hij bleef tot hij invalide verklaard werd wegens ontkalking van de heup.
