Leon Simons ('Nonkel Leon') is ongehuwd gebleven. Hij was gehandicapt (bultenaar). Hij zou te Antwerpen gewoond hebben, op de Meir. Over hem gaat het verhaal dat hij op zijn zolder een zeilboot bouwde, die hij nadien niet naar beneden kreeg.Volgens de familieoverlevering heeft men dan (een stuk van) het dak moeten afbreken om de boot met een kraan op de begane grond te krijgen.Met die bewuste boot zeilde hij dan de Schelde af. Krijgt in oktober 1916 toelating van de Duitse bezetter om naar Nederland te vertrekken, waar hij op 24/10/1916. Noptitie bij vertrek: 'GR12/46

Geboren in Mortsel op 11 november 1889.
Overleden te Antwerpen op 6 juli 1954.
Beroep: rijtuigmakersgast of rijtuigmaker. Vanaf 1932 werkloos.
Verblijft met zijn ouders tot 1900 in Mortsel, daarna tot 1904 in Edegem en dan weer in Mortsel. Op 9/10/1914 verhuizen zijn ouders naar Antwerpen, Lange Dijkstraat 27.
Op dat moment staat Leonardus opgeschreven in de Liersesteenweg 141 te Mortsel. Op 1/2/1915 woont hij in de Sint Lambertusstraat 55 te Berchem.
In oktober 1916 krijgt hij in Mortsel van de Duitse bezetter de toelating om naar Nederland te vertrekken, waar hij ingeschreven wordt op24/10/1916 (gezinskaart model 3). Notitie bij vertrek “GR 12/46.
In het adresboek van 1917 van Dordrecht vinden we hem terug L.F. Simons, arb;, Geldeloozepad 52. Op dit zelfde adres woont ook een Nieuwenhuijzen.
Op 20/12/1919 verschijnt hij terug te Antwerpen, Lange Dijkstraat 27, tot 12/03/1921. Hij verhuist dan naar De Sint Lambertusstraat 55 te Berchem.
Vanaf 5/04/1921 tot 3/8/1932 woont hij in de Poortstraat 29 te Berchem. Hij verhuist dan naar de Vlijtstraat 60 te Antwerpen. Hoelang hij daar woont kunnen we nu nog niet opmaken.
Op 26/05/1934 is er een verklaring van onvermogen, hij woont dan op de cockerill kaai 18 te Antwerpen.
Op 9/12/1935 is er terug een verklaring van onvermogen, hij woont dan op de Sint Jacobsmarkt 88 te Antwerpen.
Op 22/06/1953 wordt hij opgenomen in het Sint Elisabeth gasthuis, hij woont dan in de Reynderstraat 25. Op 28/08/1953 verlaat hij het ziekenhuis en gaat naar het gesticht in de Drabstraat te Kontich. Op 3/11/1953 komt hij terug terecht in het St Elisabethgasthuis om op 23/12/1953 naar de Reynderstraat 25 terug te keren..
Uiteindelijk wordt hij op 03/05/1954 terug opgenomen in het gasthuis, waar hij op 06/06/1954 overlijdt.
