Notes about Antje Garritsen

Zij is overleden in het verpleeghuis Texel en op 26 jan. gecremeerd in Schagen om 12.00 uur.
Ze doorliep de lagere school en werkte daarna op de boerderij van haar ouders. Ze kon heel goed met dieren omgaan en was vooral dol op paarden.

Ze verloofde zicht met Douwe Drso. Het was niet geheel tot genoegen van haar as. schoonmoeder, die haar beneden haar stand vond. de Drossen stonden op Texel in aanzien Douwes vader was reder (Doeksen en Dros), had een graanzaak en boerderijen. Hij zat in besturen, was oa. regent van het weeshuis. Zakelijk gezien voerden de Drossen een soepel beleid. Wanbetalers werden nauwelijks gemaand. Daardoor verloren ze in slechte tijden veel geld. Douwes broer had op kostschool gezeten en was officier. De Drossen hadden het nogal hoog in hun bol en leefden daarnaar.

Toen zij met Douwe Dros huwde, was hij volgens de BS "direkteur ener advocaatfabriek". Volgens de familie werkte hij op kantoor bij Dros en Co.

Douwes ouders zouden later al hun geld verliezen bij het zoeken naar het goud van de Lutine. Failliet gaan was een schande in die tijd. Arie Dros bedankte voor alle besturen. Antje kreeg toen haar schoonouders in huis.

Douwe en An hadden aanvankelijk een winkel in kruidenierswaren.

Na de dood van haar moeder kwam haar vader in 1921 bij haar in huis. Zij verzorgde hem tot aan zijn dood in 1926.

Ze woonden eerst in de Binnenburg tegenover de kerk; later op het Schildereind tegenover de Zeevaartschool; op de Steneenplaats nr. 6 boven de winkel Dros Magazijn; in de Weverstraat 5.

De advocaatfabriek werd opgedoekt en met financiële steun van Klaas Bakker werd de winkel in huishoudelijke artikelen "Dros Magazijn" gesticht. Annie bracht deze zaak tot grote bloei. Ze specialiseerde zich in fijne zaken, zoals Makkumer aardewerk.

Ze was de flinkste helft van het echtpaar. de zaak dreef vooral op haar. Douwe maakte zich tijdens zijn leven bijzonder verdienstelijk voor de voetbalclub.

An wist in de winkel van geen ophouden. tot haar 70e jaar werkte ze er in, samen met haar man.

An en Douwe werden stokoud.
