    Notes about David Edward DeYoung

David was the 9th of 10 children born to Pieter and Della VanderBeek DeJong. He was born on a farm near Prairie View Kansas. When he was born, he had four living brothers and three living sisters (with one more born after he was), besides 4 half brothers and one half sister. As the children grew old enough, they all had to work on the farm. This was good training as most of the boys spent their lives as farmers, including Dave.

April 30 1935, he married Lela Erickson and they had four children - Lyle, Lois, Phyllis, and Delores.

Dave's family and brother, Herbert's family were very close. They attended the same church - The Church of God in Norton KS. and spent many Sunday afternoons together. Games, talking and naps took up the afternoon until they had to separate to do chores. The cows insisted on that. These two brothers and two other men made up a men's quartet that sang at the church.

In 1985 Dave and Lela celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at the church with family and many friends in attendance.

After leaving the farm Dave and Lela moved into Norton KS to spend their retirement years. Lela passed away in 1995 and Dave continued to live alone for a few years. Unfortunately, he eventually became unable to live alone and moved into the Andbe Home in Norton and lived there until his death.
