    Notes about Deda DeYoung

Deda was the 8th child of Pieter and Della Vander Beek DeYoung born on a farm near Prairie View, Norton County KS. She graduated from Prairie View High School in 1924, then attended Kansas Wesleyan in Salina and Kansas State where she received her degree in Home Economics. After graduating she went to Chicago and worked for Henry Fields. After her father died she returned to Prairie View to live with her mother. During that time she taught in several schools in the Prairie View area. During summers she attended Denver University getting her degree in Library Science. She taught Home Economics and Math in the LaCrosse Kansas schools and received a silver tray for 33 years of service. After retiring she moved back to the family farm east of Prairie View with her sister, Irene. Her later years were at Logan Manor, Logan Kansas where sisters, Grace and Irene also lived. She passed away while living there. (According to family records the dates for birth and death at the top are correct. The ones on her gravestone are different.)
