    Gracie was born to Della Vander Beek and Pieter DeJong in Pella, Nebraska which no longer exists. She was just a toddler when she followed the children in play. She stumbled and fell in a mud puddle. With her face down, she was unable to breathe and drowned before being discovered. She had one older brother, Aaron John.
