Notes about Gerard Bannink

Gerard wordt op 5 oktober 1883 geboren in Hummelo als eerste zoon en kind van de zes kinderen van Jan Hendrik van 1867 en Geertruida Willemina Huizing van 1865. Gerard wordt geboren in het ouderlijk huis van Jan Hendrik en de aangifte van de geboorte wordt onder andere gedaan door grootvader Wichert. Gerard groeit op in Hummelo en gaat als jongen van twaalf, in de sporen van zijn vader, naar de Doetinchemse IJzergieterij in Langerak. Eén van de directeuren, die ziet dat hij wel wat in zijn mars heeft, vindt dat hij eerst wat wijzer moet worden op andere plekken in de wereld en stuurt hem naar de Marine Kweekschool voor de Zeevaart in Leiden. Gerard wordt daarna verder opgeleid op het opleidings-en wachtschip “De Buffel”. Later vaart hij als kok en vanaf 1910 als sergeant kok op de HR MS Nautilus en de HR MS De Ruyter. Op september 1912 neemt hij ontslag bij de Marine.
Want tijdens één van zijn verloven heeft hij in Den Helder Fokeltje ontmoet en hij trouwt met haar op 24 september 1908 in Den Helder. Zijn vader en moeder zijn daarbij aanwezig.
De schepen waarop Gerard voer werden vooral ingezet in de Oost. Java en zijn archipel van eilanden en ook Nieuw-Guinea. Hij deelde zijn nieuwe en waarschijnlijk verbazend andere wereld met zijn familie door ze kaarten te sturen van de plekken waar hij aan wal was geweest. Zo heeft hij er van 1905 tot 1912 een hele reeks naar zijn familie gestuurd. En vooral aan zijn zus Mies (Willemina Alberta 1892) .
Eenmaal terug aan de wal en getrouwd hebben Gerard en Fokeltje zich eerst gevestigd in Doetinchem en vanaf 1916 in Hummelo in wijk A op nummer 7. Het huis waar hij ook is geboren. Gerard en Fokeltje krijgen vijf kinderen, twee jongens en drie meisjes. Zij wonen nog een lange tijd in Hummelo, maar gaan tussen 1924 en eind jaren dertig naar Langerak bij Doetinchem.
Op 6 september 1912 begint Gerard opnieuw op de ijzergieterij. Van Fabrieksarbeider en zandvormer wordt hij gieterijbaas. Hij beleeft er zijn 25- en 40 jarig jubileum en gaat in 1948 op 65 jarige leeftijd met pensioen. Als de fabriek in 1954 zestig jaar bestaat biedt hij de directie een, op schaal (1:100) gemaakte, maquette aan van de fabriek zoals die was bij de oprichting in 1894.
Rond 1916 heeft Gerard zich aangesloten bij het apostolisch geloof. Hij trad toe tot de Hersteld Apostolische Zendingsgemeente in de Eenheid der Apostelen (HAZEA) uit 1925 . Rond 1926 werd hij geroepen tot een dienend ambt, eerst als voorganger van de gemeente Doetinchem en later als Herder om meerdere gemeenten te dienen. Bij zijn overlijden en begrafenis in 1956 is door de apostel Kamphuis stilgestaan bij zijn verdiensten, wat ook is vermeld in Militia Christi 1e jaargang, nummer 6, 1 maart 1956.
