Notes about Robert Sherring (Sr.)

Around the year 1728 after they were married, they lived at Leigh, near Yetminster, in the north west of Dorset. In that year an entry appears in the Yetminster baptism register: Elizabeth, a base born child living with farmer Sherwin of Leigh; she was not their child. No baptism entry has been found for Joan, but the Broadmayne burial register has:' Joan, daughter of Robert Sherwin of Lye, buried 17 January 1730/1. Leigh in this instance is indeed pronounced as Lye. {excerpt taken from Thea & Francis Clayton's book}

The Dorset Poll Book for 1807 shows that Robert Sherren of Cattistock had free hold land there, which he occupied, he also had some free hold land in Broadmayne, the occupier of which was Eli Paul. When the enclosure of Broadmayne took place in 1811, Robert Sherren received 59 Acres 1 rood 32 pearches.
