Sir John Elphinstone, 2nd Bt. was born in 1675.1 He was the son of Sir James Elphinstone, 1st Bt. and Cecilia Denholme.2 He married Mary Elliot, daughter of Sir Gilbert Elliot, 1st Bt., on 23 August 1703.1 He died on 14 March 1732.1

Sir John Elphinstone, 2nd Bt. was admitted to Advocate on 15 February 1699.1 He held the office of Sheriff of Aberdeenshire.1 He succeeded to the title of 2nd Baronet Elphinstone, of Logie Elphinstone, co. Aberdeen and Nova Scotia [N.S., 1701] on 10March 1722.1
