Werkte na de HBS bij R.S. Stokvis Ltd en later bij de Draka. Ondersteunde

haar ouders. Trouwde op 3 mei 1934 Adolf Leo Simons. Het burgerlijk

huwelijk werd voltrokken in Amsterdam (voor fl. 6,- met drie paren

tegelijk). Haar man wilde niemand bij het huwelijk hebben, alleen haar

moeder mocht hierbij aanwezig zijn. De chupah vond in Brussel plaats,

waar haar broer Mischa en schoonzuster Nettie woonden.

In 1939 vertrokken ze naar Nederlands Indie. Toen zij op 1 september in

Suez aan wal gingen, hoorden zij dat Hitler Polen was binnengevallen: het

begin van de 2e Wereldoorlog.

In 1941 vielen de Japanners Nederlands Indie binnen en bracht zij

vervolgens 3,5 jaar door in de Japanse concentratiekampen op Java:

Tjihapit, Adek en Tangerang.

Na de bevrijding ging zij op transport naar Siam, waar zij in Bangkok

haar man hoopte te vinden, die aan de Birma-Siam spoorweg tewerk was

gesteld als krijgsgevangene.

In 1946 keerde zij op een troepentransportschip voor 600 passagiers met

1800 man terug naar Nederland.

In 1947 kreeg zij op haar bijna 43e jaar een zoon. Haar man was reeds

vooruitgereisd naar Suriname en stuurde een telegram met de inhoud: "Knap

gedaan, naam accoord".

Zij woonde met haar man en zoon in Suriname tot 1949 en in Indonesie tot

1952. Toen keerden zij terug naar Nederland. Kwamen terecht op de Kroft

in Schoorl, het huis van de na de oorlog enig overgebleven tante van haar

man, die inmiddels was overleden.

In 1964 scheidde zij van tafel en bed van haar man en verhuisde met haar

zoon naar Amsterdam.

Toen haar zoon naar Israel emigreerde in 1967, volgde zij hem in 1969,

doch keerde in 1971 terug.

De laatste tien jaar van haar leven woonde zij aan de Van Boshuizenstraat

309 in Amsterdam Buitenveldert, waar zij sterk politiek geengageerd en

betrokken zich het leed van velen aantrok.

Op 11 september 1981 werd zij bij het oversteken op een

voetgangersoversteekplaats op de Buitenveldertselaan doodgereden om half

tien 's morgens. Zij raakte in coma en overleed twee uur later in het

Wilhelmina Gasthuis in Amsterdam. Als laatste van haar familie is ook zij

geen natuurlijke dood gestorven en als enige van haar familie heeft zij

een graf op de Liberaal-Joodse Begraafplaats Gan HaShalom aan de

Vijfhuizerweg bij Hoofddorp.
