Loren Haan, 50, of Davis, SD died Saturday, October 25, 2014 from meningitis, at the Avera McKennan Hospital, Sioux Falls.

Loren Owen Haan was born on August 25, 1964 at Sioux Falls, SD, the son of Donald and Leona (Klinghagen) Haan. He grew up near Davis, SD attending school in Lennox and graduating from Lennox High School with honors in 1982.

Loren was active in the FFA, vocal music, played trumpet in the band and was an Ambassador of Music while touring Europe representing SD. He went on to earn an electronics degree from Southeast Technical Institute. He also earned his private pilot's license with sea plane rating.

Loren had worked briefly for HyVee before entering his career as a contractor. He worked with George and Dave Nowak, before starting Haan Construction with his partner Randy Straatmeyer.

In 1998, Loren wed Sandy Holm and Samantha Haan was born to this union.

On June 30, 2006 he married Brenda Anderson-Neeman.

They made their home on the Haan family farm near Davis. Loren was an active member of First English Lutheran Church.

Loren enjoyed cars: buying, selling, trading, collecting, restoring, building rat rods, figure 8 cars and demolition cars. He had many collections including key chains, hub caps and steering wheels. He was a master of the smoked pork loin and had entered several bar-b-q cooking competitions. Loren was a plasma cutter artist and earlier in his life he enjoyed Taekwondo.

Loren was preceded in death by his mother, Leona on October 10, 2001.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Brenda, Davis; daughter, Samantha Haan; step-children: Jordan Neeman, Ryelee Neeman, Chelsey Zaft and Scott Houtkooper; father, Donald Haan, Lennox, siblings: Dr. Connie Haan Jacksonville, FL and Terry (Tami) Haan, Billings, MT, his many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, other relatives and a host of friends.
