Having been in failing health, Katie Mehl died at the Lennox Good Samaritan Center on Tuesday morning, Oct. 4, 1994, having attained the age of 92 years, three months and 17 days. Katie Mehl was born on a farm in Lincoln County, SD, on Jun. 17, 1902, the daughter of Folkert and Jurena (Bossman) Kuper. She attended rural school and grew up in this community. She lived her entire life in the Lennox community. On Apr. 4, 1924., she married Chris Hoek. On Jan. 22, 1936, she was united in marriage to Henry Mehl at Turner County First Presbyterian Manse, rural Davis. They farmed in the Lennox area their entire married life. Her husband preceded her in death on Feb. 25, 1962. Following his death she moved into Lennox where she had since lived. She entered the Lennox Good Samaritan Center on Jan. 6,1994. Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one sister, Mrs. Wichert (Jennie) Buse, and one brother, Herman F. Kuper. Grateful for having shared her life are her daughter and son-in-law, Irene and Harven Brass of rural Lennox; two grandchildren: Loretta Tonak and Lorin Brass; six great-grandchildren: Benjamin, Rebecca and Timothy Tonak, and Katherine,Jennifer and Molly Brass.
