"Arlo J. Carlson

Sioux Falls - in loving memory from his wife and children, Arlo Carlson, 80, of 4606 East Adams, #3, died Wednesday at Avera McKennan Hospice.

Arlo was born Decembeer 15, 1921 at Hudson, SD to Jonas and Ingrid (Anderson) Carlson. He moved with his family to Sioux Falls, in 1925. He received his education in Sioux Falls, attending Washington High School.

On June 11, 1942, Arlo entered the US military, and served in the Army until receiving his honorable discharge on November 29, 1945. He was united in marriage with Tillena Viet on Sept. 12, 1947 in Sioux Falls. Upon his return from the military, Arlo worked various jobs in Sioux Falls. He was most recently employed in the maintenance area of First Lutheran Church. He worked there for 11 years, retiring in 1987.

He was a member of First Lutheran Church, the V.F.W., and the Teamster Retiree club. Arllo enjoyed camping, fishing, and traveling.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Tillena, of Sioux Falls, SD; four daughters, Bonnie Nygaard of Sioux Falls, SD, Mrs. Greg (Jean) Richards of Mesa, AZ, Mrs. Bruce (Pam) Wilde of Brandon, SD, Mrs. Terry (Sandra) Ugland of Sioux Falls, SD; 13 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; on sister, Sara M. Niewald of Hartford, SD; and two brothers, Elmer Carlson and Dennis Carlson, both of Sioux Falls.

Arlo was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Karen; two brothers and four sisters.

Funeral services will be held 2:30 pm Saturday at First Lutheran Church. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. Visitation begins at noon on Friday at Miller Funeral home. Main Avenue location, with a prayer service at 8:00 pm that evening at the funeral home."
