Gertrude M. Trudy Dykstra, daughter of Andrew and Gertie (Wieman) Dykstra, was born September 8, 1930 on a farm in Turner County near Monroe, SD. She grew up there and graduated from Monroe High School in 1948. She completed her nursing training at the Sioux Valley School of Nursing in Sioux Falls, SD and became a Registered Nurse.

During her career, Trudy worked in several area hospitals and nursing homes, including Canton-Inwood Hospital in Canton, SD, Luverne Hospital in Luverne, MN and Sioux Valley Hospital, McKennan Hospital, Bethany Lutheran Home and Southridge Healthcare Center in Sioux Falls. Following her retirement in 1995, she worked part-time as a program assistant for Senior Daybreak in Sioux Falls.

Grateful for having shared her life are two children, Nancy Hoyme, Pierre, SD, Paul Ahrendt and his special friend, Lana Maurer, Sioux Falls, SD; four grandchildren, Nicole Hoyme and her special friend, Clint Haffner, Jessica Hoyme, Michael Hoyme, Erica Mays and her husband, David; one great-grandson, Cash Mays; a sister, Darlene DeHoogh and her husband, Eugene, Sioux Falls, SD; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Trudy was preceded in death by twin grandsons, Jonathon and Thomas Hoyme; her parents, Andrew and Gertie Dykstra; and her daughter-in-law, Kathy Ahrendt."
