Matilda "Tillie" Eva Wieman Edzards, age 91, passed away Monday, September 8, 2008, at the New Mark Care Center in Kansas City, Missouri. She was born November 4, 1916, near Monroe, South Dakota, the daughter of John and Minnie Gortmaker Weiman. Tillie was united in marriage to Clarence John Edzards on September 6, 1939, in LeMars, Iowa. Tillie and Clarence resided in Emery, South Dakota, until 1951, when they moved to Stover, Missouri, with their three children, Larry, Mardella, and Bonita. For many years, Tillie operated a fabric business out of her home and was an excellent seamstress. Tillie was a member of the First Baptist Church of Stover for 38 years, was secretary of WMU for 17 years, and served her church in many capacities including playing the piano at the Golden Age Living Center. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Lela Edzards of Stover, Missouri; daughters, Mardella Raines of Bryant, Arkansas and Bonita Edzards of Kansas City, Missouri; sister Lena Payne of Pinole, California; sister-in-law, Shirley Kienholz of Bird Island, Minnesota; grandchildren, Annette Reed of Blue Springs, Missouri, Vicki Wang of Medford, Oregon, Monica Marshall of Stover, Missouri, Jeremy Raines of Benton, Arkansas; great-grandchildren, Tara, Tesa, and Tyler Reed of Blue Springs, Missouri, Parker, Peyton, and Lily Raines of Benton, Arkansas; a great-great-grandchild, Kylie Titus of Blue Springs, Missouri; nieces, nephews, and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence John Edzards; sisters and brothers-in-law, Arie and John Borgers, Gertie and Andrew Dykstra, Ella and Kenneth Davis, Wert and Bernice Wieman, Jurn and Marian Wieman, Hilbrand Wieman, Jack Payne, and two brothers who died as children before Tillie was born. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, September 12, at the First Baptist Church in Stover with Dr. Lindell Reed officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles. Interment will be in the Stover Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the New Mark Care Center, The Special Care Unit, 11221 N. Nashua Drive, Kansas City, Missouri 64155. Expressions of sympathy may be left online at www.kidwellgarber.com. Arrangements are under the direction of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Versailles.
