Roy's obituary from the Milford Mail, 9 Nov 1950:

[Pg. 1]

"The community was truly saddened late Monday morning when word reached here telling that Roy Bever, Milford burness man, had suffered a fatal heart attack at Early, Iowa that morning.

Roy had left in the early morning hours with Henry Askeland to make a trucking trip to Schaller. From Schaller the two men drove to Early, to pick up a return load of merchandise. While in the process of loading the truck Roy complained of being cold, and decided to get into the truck cab to get warm. The workmen completed the loading of the truck, and upon entering the cab, found that Mr. Bever had died.

Last rites were held Wednesday from the Union Memorial church in Milford, with Rev. J. H. Castle in charge. E. O. Johnson, Bert Carpenter, Kenneth Martin, Louis Calkins, Howard Boers and H. A. Parrott, served as casket bearers.

Music was supplied by a quartet composed of C. C. Rederick, Rev. Castle, Leonard Branstetter and Roland Chamberlain. To the accompaniment of Mrs. W. L. Mendenhall, Jr., they sang "Good Night and Good Morning". Leonard Branstetter also sang "Going Home".

Interment was made in the family lot in Okoboju Cemetery, Arnolds Park, with the Masonic services at the cemetery. The Knight of Pythias and the Masons attended the services in a group.

Roy V. Bever, elder of two sons of Wiliam and Nellie Bever, was born September 2, 1888 at Audubon, Iowa. He came to the Milford vicinity in 1911, and was united in marriage to Marian Stapleton of Lake Park, Iowa, on December 16, 1912. To this union six children were born, two of whom died in 1933.

After farming west of Milford for several years, the Bever family moved to Milford to make their home here in 1936. Roy had an extensive business of corn shelling, general trucking, gravel and earth moving, in company with his son, Rex Bever.

He passed away suddenly during the morning of Monday, Nov. 6 from a heart attack. He leaves to morn his death, his wife, Mrs. Marian Bever; four children; Nellie, Mrs. Elba Kilts, Bouton, Iowa; Blair, of Inglewood, Calif.; Rex, of Milford; and Shirley. He also leaves a brother, Ray, of Salem, Oregon, and a great many other relatives and a wide host of friends. He was a member of Union Memorial Church, of the Masonic Lodge, Easter Star, Knights of Pythias and the Pythian Sisters.

Roy had an ever increasing number of friends. His disposition was kindly, and his willingness to help others was rarely exceeded. His work, whichhe loved, kept him in contact with local and rural folks constantly,"
