Services were held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, November 2nd, 2006 at the Peoples Church with Mark McCormick, Leon Laney & Craig Fuller officiating – Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Horizon Funeral Home

Verlyn is survived by his wife Judy Groen of Dalhart, TX – Sons: Scott Groen of Dalhart, TX & Ryan Groen of Mooresville, N.C. Daughters: Jacque and her husband Steve Colangelo of Broomfield, CO – Nicole & her husband Steve Garcia of Amarillo, TX –– Mother: Lena Groen of Rock Valley, IA - father and mother-in-law: Agner & Nella Terpstra of Rock Valley, Iowa – Grandsons: Cole Groen of Dalhart, TX - Jase Garcia of Amarillo, TX – Granddaughter: Addison Colangelo of Broomfield, CO – Sisters: Glenda & her husband Bernie Sneller of Dalhart, TX – Marcie Looft of High Lands Ranch, CO. – Colleen & her husband Allen Van Beek of Rock Valley, IA – Brothers: Curtis & his wife Gayle Groen of Sherrills Ford, NC – Terry & his wife Robin Groen of Dalhart, TX and Many Nieces and Nephews along with special friends…

Preceded in death by his father Clarence Groen and brother in law Joe Looft as well as niece Melissa Groen and Nephews Micah Groen & Tyler Van Beek.

Verlyn was born May 30, 1947 to Clarence and Lena (Bos) Groen in Sibley, Iowa he graduated in 1965 from Central Lyon High School in Rock Rapids, Iowa. He enlisted in the army and spent time at Fort Carson in Colorado before being called to active duty to serve in Vietnam. He and Judy Terpstra were married on February 12, 1971 in Rock Valley, Iowa. They farmed near Rock Rapids before moving to Dalhart in 1977. Verlyn had a special passion for family and was so proud of his family and enjoyed being a part of their lives. He was an avid muscle car enthusiast and had restored a mustang and fairlane. He was involved with go-cart racing with both his sons and later he moved on to Modified race cars. His passions not only included his family and his cars but music and friends.
