Clarence Frank Groen, 86, rural Doon, died Tuesday, January 25, at Valley Manor Nursing Home in Rock Valley.

Services were Saturday, January 29, at Hope Reformed Church in rural George, with Pastor David Vander Laan officiating. Burial was at the church cemetery, under the direction of Bolin Funeral Home in George.

Clarence Groen, son of Ollie and Clara (Denekas) Groen, was born July 2, 1918, in rural George. He lived his youth around George and attended country school. He married Lena Bos on March 20, 1941. He served in the U.S. Army 1942-43. They then farmed five years in Little Rock. They then moved to Rock Rapids and farmed for 12 years. They then moved to Doon and farmed for 45 more years. After retiring from farming, he worked at Siebring Manufacturing in George and Lyon One.

He was a charter member of Hope Reformed Church in rural George, holding many church offices.

Survivors include his wife, Lena Groen of Doon; six children, Glenda and Bernie Sneller of Dalhart, Texas, Verlyn and Judy Groen of Dalhart, Texas, Marcie Looft of Highlands Ranch, Colorado, Curtis and Gayle Groen of Lexington, South Dakota, Terry and Robin Groen of Dalhart, Texas, and Colleen and Allen Van Beek of Rock Valley; 19 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Clifford and Verla Groen of Little Rock and Verdell and Judy Groen of George; and a sister-in-law, Frances Groen of Little Rock.

He was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Joe Looft; three grandchildren, Melisa Groen, Micah Groen, and Tyler Van Beek; a great-granddaughter, Ashley Smith; a brother, George Groen; and two sisters, Frances and Henrietta
