Larry John Riekena was born on Tuesday; December 3, 1935 in Wellsburg; Grundy County, Iowa. He was the son of: John and Esther [Meester] Riekena. He attended the Wellsburg Community Schools graduating with the class of 1953. He worked road construction for several years until he purchased his farm in Hardin County in 1963. On Saturday; June 17, 1978 he was married to Phyllis Jane Lyman Toomsen at the Owasa United Methodist Church. He semi-retired from farming in 2006. Larry John Riekena, age 72, of Iowa Falls; Hardin County, Iowa passed away on Sunday; December 16, 2007, at the Ellsworth Hospital in Iowa Falls, Iowa. Those left to mourn his passing are: His wife: Phyllis Riekena of Iowa Falls, Iowa; Phyllis's children: Mike [companion Jacci Milligan] Toomsen of Geneva; Franklin County, Iowa. Susan [David] Rieks of Steamboat Rock; Hardin County, Iowa and Ron [fiancée Kelly Meyer] of Geneva, Iowa. His eight grandchildren: Holly [Mitch] Meyer of Iowa Falls, Iowa. Quintin [Nicole] Toomsen of Iowa Falls, Iowa. Jessica Toomsen of Hampton; Franklin County, Iowa. Kelly [Jason] Barrick of Iowa Falls, Iowa. Tyler Toomsen of Ackley; Hardin County, Iowa. Nick Toomsen of Geneva, Iowa. Abby Toomsen of Hampton, Iowa and Haley Toomsen of Hampton, Iowa. His five great grandchildren: Weston, Koby, Chase, Cambria Meyer and Jaelyn Barrick, all of Iowa Falls, Iowa. Also his one brother: Lowell [Cathy] Riekena of Wellsburg, Iowa. Visitation will be from: 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday; December 18, 2007 at the funeral home. Funeral services will begin at: 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday; December 19, 2007 at the United Methodist Church in Owasa; Hardin County, Iowa with the Reverend Ward Richards, Jr. officiating. Interment will be in the Hazel Green Cemetery, rural Ackley, Iowa. Memorials in Larry's name may be directed to the family c/o his wife: 28078 160th Street, Iowa Falls, Iowa, 50126.
