Diane Evelyn Walbaum, 90, of Grundy Center died May 17, 2007 at the Grundy Care Center in Grundy Center. After cremation graveside service was at Shiloh Cemetery in Wellsburg on May 22. Memorials may be directed to Diane's family, the American Lutheran Church, the Cedar Valley Hospice, or to the Grundy Care Center.
Diane was born January 2, 1917 west of Wellsburg on the home farm. She was the daughter of Evert J. and Mary (Ross) Riekena. Diane attended country school a few yards east of the farm home and graduated from Wellsburg High School in 1933. Diane was a founding member of the American Lutheran Church in Grundy Center where she taught Sunday school and was a member of the women's group. Diane was very devoted to her church and her family.Her survivors include a daughter, Jacquelyn and her husband Jack Samo of Grundy Center; a son, Eldon and his wife Sharon Walbaum of Dows; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.She was preceded in death by her father in 1952; her mother in 1966; two brothers, John Riekena in 1975 and Emery Riekena in 1963; and a sister, Jeanette Tack in 2003.--The Grundy Register (Grundy Center, Iowa), 24 May 2007, pg 3
